ONE SIGN ONE COIN- SAVE THE NATION

Dear Friends,

Here's an initiative of Youth for Equality (Y4E or YFE). This campaign was started by YFE-DU, and is now reaching all corners of the country.

Our aim here is to affect the government politically. Then is when there will be enough pressure on them to STOP their CASTE-BASED DIVISIVE ACTIVITIES. We want to produce before the President and the Government more than 1 CRORE signatures. You will be aware that 1 CRORE is a good enough electorate to swing election results.

We want to make it LOUD AND CLEAR to our politicians- if you try to DIVIDE us, YOU WILL HAVE TO SUFFER.

WHAT CAN YOU DO??
-----------------
You can work on YFE's behalf- in your office, your school/ institute, your home and locality, on the streets, in the malls, in family gatherings, in a public parties, and other places to GET AS MANY SIGNATURES AS POSSIBLE, and AT THE EARLIEST!!

HOW CAN YOU DO IT??
-------------------
1) Download the PDF file ONE-SIGN-ONE-COIN-SAVE-THE-NATION.pdf
2) Read the Instructions (pages 1 to 2) carefully and print the signature forms back-to-back (English- pages 3 to 4, Hindi- pages 5 to 6)
2) Xerox to make multiple copies
3) Pass on the copies to your friends and relatives
4) Go ahead and talk to people about why we need to curb the government's divisive policies, assert our desire to live as a united nation, and GET THEIR SIGNATURES (The previously mandatory requirement for 1 Rupee has now been waived- the phrase "one coin" stays as a symbolic)
5) Collect the forms from your friends too
6) Send all the signed forms to Mr.Amit Singh (YFE-DU), 73 Jubillee Hall,University of Delhi, Delhi-110007, Mobile- 9891450948, preferably by courier/ express mail.
7) Forward this email to all your friends to SPREAD THE MOVEMENT like WILD FIRE.

Let's step forward and seize our RIGHT TO EQUALITY.

Some that we saw, some that we didn't- Part 1

While the first phase of the National Movement was going on in full swing all across the country, most of us here didn't know about it. Our perception of the movement remained confined to Delhi!

Here are some glimpses of where happened what:

1. Lathi charge by Haryana Police

2. About 1000 students blocked a Highway in Ambala

3. A ‘maha panchayat’ was organized in Meham in which representatives from all the villages in Haryana participated. It was decided that committee will be set up in each village of Haryana to carry the movement further.

National Coordination Committee now in place

The National Coordination Committee (NCC) of Youth for Equality has now been formed. The formation of the NCC in a three-day Akhil Bhartiya Samaanta Sammelan 2006 (ABSS) in Bangalore was also accompanied by (1) a Review of the first phase of the National Movement, (2) Consolidation of the Charter of Demands, and (3) Strategies for the second phase of the National Movement.

The ABSS was attended by 54 delegates, representing 18 states, who had worked in the first phase of the National Movement.

JNU’s representation at the ABSS was met with some curiosity and great respect and YFE-JNU's 21 days of Hunger Strike was highly applauded. JNU's contribution in the ABSS was significant in the debates leading to the Charter of Demands.

It was finally upheld in the ABSS that YFE is neither against any caste / class nor against reservation per se, but against the ineffective Reservation policies that DO NOT penetrate to the needy. The delegates were unanimous in their demand for a complete roll-back of the proposed Reservation Bill and for an apolitical review of the existing reservation policy.

The NCC formation is an important step towards the greater goal of reversing the casteist designs of the ruling government. The NCC will now coordinate the National Movement scattered across the country such that the combined effect of our individual struggles hit with a huge impact on the divisive government. Our aspirations for an EQUAL NATION have been further strengthened.

Sri Sri is with us

It is heartening to note that Spiritual Guru Sri Sri Ravishankar is with us. The meet with GuruJi saw a turnout of some 300-400 students from all corners of the country.

GuruJi thinks that segregation by reservations is an INSULT to Human capacity and dignity, it is an implicit proclamation that some Human beings are less capable and need crutches!!

We salute GuruJi for having shown support and we are hopeful that his involvement in our movement will make us stronger!!

Silent Pedestrian Walk turns LOUD- Students blocked by the POLICE!!

More than 200 supporters joined us in our Silent Candelight Pedestrian Walk.

The walk that was supposed to go from JNU's North Gate to PVR Priya Complex was blocked at JNU's North Gate by Police Force.

It is a shame that the same government not only allowed but also protected pro-reservation sloganeers a day before- that too at India Gate!!!!!

OUR STRUGGLE AGAINST THE DIVISIVE POLICIES OF THE GOVERNMENT WILL CONTINUE!!!!
